Pray & Trust That God Will Act!

“Commit your way to the Lord, trust that he will act…Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.”                     Psalm 37:5-7 I have a friend whose son and his wife are in the throws of a serious medical challenge. He was just diagnosed yesterday with an aggressive melanoma, just days before the birth of their 2nd baby. Yes, life is chock-full of surprises, some of them very difficult, but consider today’s Scripture… In our humanness, it is very easy to become swept away by life’s difficulties and challenges, even to the point of despair. When life gets hard, it is easy to forget that God is in control. Yet the Bible tells us to pray, then wait and trust that God will act on our behalf in His own special time and way. For there is no need to take back what we have given to God to work out for good. Some think God is far away and quite removed from our daily happenings, yet God tells us again and again through Scripture…“Be Not Afraid, I am with You!” “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 In fact, through the power of the Holy Spirit, God has sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to reside with us in both joyous times and in difficult times. The Great Healer, Protector, Comforter, Protector, and Savior, He is not in the distance, but actually with all who call upon...

God’s Grace Upon You

16 ‘Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”’  Matthew 19:16-17 ___________________________________________ As we approach Ash Wednesday, it seems only fitting to remember the man who asked Jesus, “What good thing must I do to gain Eternal Life?” Like the man who asked the question, isn’t easy for us to think that the way to Jesus and Eternal Life is through good works? But consider this… The Bible tells us in the New Testament that God is kind and merciful, slow to anger and ever ready to pour out His grace upon those who believe in His only Son, Jesus. He is there for all who seek him in earnest, and ever present to us through the mighty power of the Holy Spirit. There is nothing you or I can ever do to earn the love of God, our Heavenly Father. It is His grace alone that He generously dispenses for our benefit. He simply asks us to do what He told Moses in the 10 Commandments. I don’t know about you, but I find great comfort in that. Perhaps because I am an RN by background and used to having written policies to guide nursing practice, I find solace in knowing that God’s Way has been clearly established for all of humanity in 10 easy to understand laws. I also revel in knowing that the field of our labor is...

All Things Work For Good

“All things work for good…” Romans 8:28 Sometimes, when I am feeling burdened, I sit or stand before the cross in Church, close my eyes, and envision placing all of my concerns, headaches, and heartaches in a gift-wrapped box. However, this is no ordinary box. In my mind, it is a carefully,  wrapped beautiful box and the lid has a big, satiny bow on it. In my mind, I confidently lay the box at the foot of the crucifix, and trust that Jesus will shoulder all of the burdens I have laid before Him. With this, while at the foot of the cross, I repeat this one simple prayer: ‘Jesus I trust in You.’  Once I do this act of humility in trust, I feel so much better, so much lighter, and definitely more ready to deal with the challenges of life on its terms. In essence, it allows me to diminish the turbulent feelings of mayhem that arise at such times, and through this simple exercise and prayer, to once again, walk in peace, realizing that all things work for good. As Christians, we are so fortunate and blest to have Jesus carry our burdens for us for the asking. He is our Eternal Savior, as well as, our Living Savior. He provides much needed practical help and is ever ready to pave the way, clear the path, lift us onto higher ground, bridge relationships, and be the bridge we need to cross over turbulent, stormy waters to help us get to the other side.  He is there both for you and for me, ready to respond to our...
