“God will supply all your needs…in Jesus Christ.”

Philippians 4:19

It’s so easy to go through life saying “I can’t,” “It’s impossible,” “I will never be able to…” In a way, we are right. What can we possibly do without God’s help? The truth is, very little as we are limited by our humanness. But how often have we forgotten to ask for Jesus’ help? I’m sure the times are countless. . It is only natural to try to go it alone before looking to Jesus when all seems lost, or seemingly even impossible. Certainly I sometimes wait until a situation seems dire to turn to Jesus and invite Him in to help me and my loved ones. How different our lives would be if we could just remember that the Only Son of God, our Lord and Savior, came to save us—both eternally and in our daily lives! Something tells me we would turn to him first, simply as a matter of course.

‘Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”’

John 14:6

Jesus said:You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”

John 14:14

If we as Christians truly believe that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through Him, why is it that we forget to invite Him into every circumstance? That begs the question: ‘Why not?’ Sometimes it’s as if we are disconnected from Jesus, and we think we can go it alone without His help. But in our humanness, we are so limited in every way.  We seem to forget that there isn’t anything that God wouldn’t do for each of His children, especially those who seek His face; who strive to serve Him in word and deed. When you believe that God is an all-knowing, almighty, ever-present, merciful, and compassionate God, you are more apt to bring Him into your life situations more readily. Perhaps we should humbly pray, “Jesus help my unbelief!” as that may be the source of why we leave God out of our lives. If we really believed that Jesus Christ really is the Great Healer, Comforter, Provider, Protector and Savior, how different our lives would be!

It reminds me of the man who went to a fine dining restaurant and worried after the meal as to how he would pay for it. He had picked a restaurant beyond his means and also had ‘over-ordered,’ going far beyond his budget for his night out with his wife. When he went to pay the bill, he soon learned that it had been taken care of in advance by a stranger. Understandable, he was shocked and ever so grateful. But he was baffled, too. Who was this generous stranger and why did he pay for our meal? Feeling truly blessed, he went home and got up the next morning to go to get a cup of coffee. While there, he decided to extend a similar kindness to a stranger,’ as well. So while in line at the drive through, he ‘paid it forward’ and paid for the person in line behind him. And so it goes the cycle of kindness builds.

Too often we seem to worry about things and struggle to ‘do it all ourselves,’ when God has already taken care of every detail. Let Him be in control! We serve a God of surprises, who  specializes in doing the impossible. He knows us completely, hears all of our heartfelt prayers, and waits for us to invite Him in to do His finest work on our behalf.

God sent Jesus Christ to earth to save us some 2000 years ago. Jesus died on the cross at Calvary for our sins in order to pay the debt that humanity owed, and it changed our lives and the world forever in all the best ways. The fact is, Jesus suffered and died in atonement for our sins, by dying on the cross in our place, thereby erasing our sins and releasing us from all our sins and our debt to God. He stands ready to help us at every turn–not just once in a while. All we need to do is pray and ask!
