The Truth Famine: 12 Ways to ID Fake News

By Adele M. Gill News and the Truth Famine. What can we believe to be true these days, as we witness opposing, conflicting and distressing news reports day-in day-out? God is not the author of confusion, chaos and mayhem—that is The Enemy’s job…                             “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who                call upon Him in truth.”    Psalm 145:18 So where do people of all ages ‘find truth,’ as the news agencies they depend on daily knowingly feed them biased, agenda-based, op-ed pieces and air half-truths and full lies, posing as ‘trustworthy journalism?’ Real journalism is true, objective and fair. However, it has been derailed in exchange for half-truths and lies confusing us all, and fueling mayhem. Charlatins! But take heart…There is a way to sift through media reports to find truth even in the age of media….     Like gossipy town criers, too many news agencies and politicians stir controversy and negativity in exchange for what is good and right and true. Media deception has become the new norm for the unwitting and unaware. Long gone is objective, trustworthy news you could count on…This deception overwhelms people, and wears them down, giving them ‘news fatigue,’ hence what I call, The Truth Famine. “…Each one deceives the other, no one speaks the truth. They have accustomed their tongues to lying, they are perverse and cannot repent.” Jeremiah 9:4   Each of us needs to find our own method and personal way to seek out...

Pandemic: Be Not Afraid!

By Adele M. Gill   Are you feeling weary, worried, down, or fearful, struggling to cope with the far-reaching effects of the corona-virus? Certainly this pandemic has been challenging in every way—a difficult time for us all. Isolation, infirmity, uncertainty, required to wear masks, and social distancing. Due to the pandemic, we are being forced to miss or adapt important life events such as graduations, baptisms, and weddings. Even many schools are closed for class room learning, leaving children and their parents wondering what to do next. With all that going on, it seems highly illogical and is seemingly impossible at times to find peace or a silver lining in this turbulent time we are living—But is it really? Consider today’s scripture passage:    “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 This scripture gives us great hope! It serves as a reminder that God is in control, and that He will provide for our every need. He alone is The One that can bring us peace and settle our fears. He will help us rise above our circumstances—whatever they may be– to peacefully walk through this valley unafraid, with renewed confidence and hope. All we need to do is pray and ask for Jesus’ help. It is easy to fear the future when you believe you are alone in your situation. But this Bible passage tells us that peace can be found in Jesus Christ. Faith and fear cannot coexist. So we need...

Stay In Your Own Lane

By Adele M. Gill                   If you know me, then you will also know my Father.                                      From now on you do know Him and have seen him.” John 14:7 I have a friend who once told me no one has ever seen God. However, the truth is that the New Testament reveals Jesus in a way that we can both understand and recognize Him through His words and actions—even in modern times. Reading about Jesus makes us want to seek Him in a personal way, like light in the darkness. We need to believe that He is trustworthy; our Almighty–taking care of us in every way through all things great and small for the asking.   What Jesus talked about and did on earth some 2000 years ago—often via parables, healings, and miracles–remains with us today as a testament to God’s great, unconditional love. What He said while on earth was so vitally important, that the Bible is today still the longest running, most read book of all times. Some versions of the Holy Bible are actually written in red ink for clarity and edification. Jesus was/is just that important. He is the face of God that we revere and follow.   Today’s scripture tells us that Jesus and God are One. They are both the Truth, the Way, the Life, and Light. Jesus’ was anointed, and His spoken word in the Bible is one of God’s special ways of communicating with us....
