Do Not Fear, I AM With You

“So do not fear, I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Over the past 2 months, the medical IVIG therapy treatments I have been receiving for 8 years stopped working. It has, indeed, been a scary time for my husband and me, as it has made walking, breathing and speaking very difficult. Since that time, I have had many health challenges that have also included blurred vision,  contractures in my hands making them hard to use, and beginning to use a wheelchair for distance walking as the muscles around my lungs and trunk are very weak. It was, a scary time for me, wedged between needing a wheelchair, being unable to breathe and speak when fatigued. Yet in prayer, the Lord led me away from fear and into a greater confidence in His healing power…

The doctors have told me that as of now, there is no treatment left to try for this progressive neuro-muscular condition, as we have tried them all. However, I am fully confident in my soul that Jesus is with me, I am not alone, He has a plan, and He is capable of providing a blessed good healing for me…Just not sure how or when He will accomplish this good work!

Looking back, in the face of fear and angst about what was to come, I made an optimistic  decision early on. Optimism is very important for realizing maximal health. It can be the reason a person can defy all odds and move past a dire prognosis. That decision was to pray, trust God and believe that He would heal me in His special time and way. Trusting Him, my friends and I prayed often and I just tried to go about my life focusing on Him, and doing normal things as usual as much as possible from the wheelchair. I continued to go to Church for Mass, to the local soup kitchen as a volunteer Chaplain, worked on writing my next book, knitted, sewed, and got together with my friends.

However, this week, by the grace of God, for the glory of God, something has changed for the better without medical treatment…I am beginning to be able to walk further distances without the wheelchair! I believe God is answering my own healing prayers and those of my friends and family! Praying that the wheelchair will soon be history and I can return to the walker, I am fully trusting in Jesus’ healing power to save me from life in a wheelchair, and it appears He is doing just that! Praise God on High!

The truth is that faith and belief in God’s healing power is far greater than any medical treatment.  He can and will do the most amazing things in your life, and those of your loved ones, if you but specifically as possible ask Him! I am learning that Jesus will pave the way for you, heal you, comfort and protect you–And save you from any circumstance, simply for the asking. He is there for you at every turn, and stands in wait with outstretched arms to welcome back all who have strayed. We just need to trust him with all our being.

Today, I am deeply encouraged by what God is doing in my life, and continue to place my life squarely in His healing hands. I know He is the wind beneath my wings, the reason for returning health, and for that, I am eternally grateful!
