“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Proverbs 19:12
As believing Christians, our purpose is ultimately really all about the love we share for God and others. When we try to live as Jesus lived and to love as Jesus loves, we soon find that serving God through Jesus Christ IS our purpose. It IS our Christian identity. And when that awakening comes, we grow into our purpose and embrace it for what it is—a tremendous blessing. Christian believers have a great purpose and an important place in this world. A big part of our God-given purpose is to strive to bring the Light of Christ into this broken, fallen world. For Christians, there really is no need to wonder about the nature of our God-given purpose. For it is already well-established by God since before we were born. As you can see, God has already established your identity and purpose long before you were even born.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…”
Joshua 1:5
There really is no reason to wait for God to give you a greater purpose. God’s purpose is to be lived out in simplicity, kindness, and with goodwill each day. God’s purpose for us is not a flashy, difficult, chaotic, or complicated one. Rather, it is most often manifested in the little things that we do, especially the way live our lives, day-in-day-out. There is no such thing as the ‘perfect time’ for living out our God-given purpose, or the ‘right time’ to live our best life in Christ. That time is now.
So now that you know your God-given purpose, it’s time to embrace it and live it out, regardless of how you lived yesterday. Yesterday has passed, it’s over and done. For with God, every day is a new day, and we are called to seek Him and his purpose. By so doing we will find our identity and purpose in Christ. The following scripture tells us that if you seek God with all your heart, you will find Him:
11 For I know well the plans I have in mind for you plans for your welfare and not for woe, so as to give you a future of hope. 12 When you call me, and come and pray to me, I will listen to you. 13 When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart, 14 I will let you find me…and I will change your lot…”
Jeremiah 29:11-14
Now that you know your God-given purpose, striving to always do ‘the right thing’ and to serve God through others can go a long way to living out your purpose. The truth is our Christian identity and purpose involve growing in faith in Jesus. We need to do our part and God will do the rest. By so doing, we will find Him, and thereby make this world a better place, as we bring His Light and Love with us wherever we go. Yes—your purpose and identity have been long established, and what a blessed purpose it is!
[Jesus said] “I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you My power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
Exodus 9:16
