Life Happens

Life Happens “…Afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed…” 2 Corinthians 4:8-9  [NIV] In the Christian faith, we are taught to keep our eyes squarely on Jesus, the Great Healer, Comforter, Protector, Lord and Savior, and with good reason. This Scripture reveals the truth about what happens when we do so. Yes, life  happens as it will, but as beneficiaries of Jesus’ love, we can reach many benefits, simply by asking for His help and intercession. With Jesus as the Great Healer, we don’t need to worry about tomorrow. He is already there working things out for the good. . In adversity, through this Bible passage, He ensures us we will not be crushed by the weight of our burdens. In fact He beckons us to give them to Him and He deals with them accordingly. Yes, He may allow us to go to the brink of what we can endure. He may even wait to give us an “11th hour save,” so to speak, as situations seem to spiral out of control and reach a dire level of mayhem. That is, He allows us to go to the end of our rope, then provides blessed relief for us from infirmity, disability, mental illness, financial strain, unemployment job related concerns and every plight. With Jesus, we have a sort of resiliency and endurance that we do not have without Him left to our own devices; and through prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can endure great things far better than on our own....

Blueprint for Peace

Practical Christian living requires all of us to try our level best to take the high road at all times, regardless of the challenges or adversity we face. By so doing, with Jesus’ help, we are able to put aside any negative feelings we may have about ourselves or others, take a deep breath, and move forward in peace and harmony. Sounds easy enough, but is it really possible to loose the chains of anger, hatred, and/or unforgiveness we hold towards others as we step onto higher ground, handing Jesus the reigns to take control in every circumstance?   One of the greatest prayers for living a blessed life is found in the Prayer of St. Francis, also known as the Prayer of Peace. In a way, it is a template, a blueprint for peace to live a Godly life. It starts out, “Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,” and goes on in detail to describe just how to accomplish that ambitious spiritual goal in the simplest terms: Prayer of St Francis Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek To be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned; It is in dying that we are born to eternal life....
