“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord.”
Psalm 31:24
So what are silver linings, and how do they help make our lives easier? A silver lining is a way of looking at things that helps us find hope in adversity when we struggle through tough times. At first, looking for silver linings when we face challenges can be a bit of a challenge. However, with a little practice, we can learn to search for the God’s grace and blessings in every circumstance no matter what is before us. That’s right—no matter what!
Always Dare to Look for the Good
When we dare to look for the good, the bright side –even hope against all odds–in any and every circumstance–we will find them through looking for silver linings! Though it may sound a little too easy—even unrealistic and impossible at times, it is definitely possible to eventually see something positive come out of almost every circumstance. Though sometimes it may be a little harder than others, we can see God’s hand in everything that happens in our lives. Once you realize Jesus is with you paving the way, fighting your battles with you and for you, it gets easier. When you trust Him and believe that He will never leave you nor forsake you. When you come to know that with Jesus you are never alone in your plight, it can become second nature to look for the silver linings God sends into every situation. It is then that you can let go of fear and sadness, disappointment and anger, and experience the tremendous calm and peace that surpasses all understanding with a sense that ‘all is well’ that can only come from God’s presence, undeserved grace, and blessings.
Sometimes things seem so out of control, impossible to deal with—even dire. That is when we need to try to find silver linings the most! I learned a lot about looking for silver linings when I was young as my mother would often tell me: Count your blessings! I’m here to tell you she was right! Silver linings can give us peace of mind, especially when we are in greatest need of hope or a new perspective, They have the power to equip and enable us to see the good in almost every situation and relationship, so we can keep our wits about us, maintain our composure, and not become bitter, crumble, or break under what is unfolding before us, transpiring in our life that is trying our very soul with the potential to leave us feeling devastated.
Silver Linings & Gratitude
If you look for silver linings in every situation you face, you will find them! They will help you rise above what you are enduring. And it only gets better from there. As you grow in gratitude to God and trust in His divine purpose and plan for you and your loved ones, you will soon find that whatever is happening is not as dire or impossible as it seems. When you invite Jesus into your life, and understand that He is at the helm; He is the hope you need, things begin to change.
You will begin to see adversity as a personal growth opportunity, part of your healing, a test of your faith, or something that will help you move toward a closer relationship with Jesus. You will see God working in your life in all things great and small– as you defer to Him and revel in His saving grace. You may even realize that the adversity you face is saving you from something far worse than what you are enduring!
When we find silver linings, we realize that Jesus is with us no matter what! He is working all things out for good, especially when we are hurting or struggling in most. Silver linings serve as a powerful reminder that Jesus loves us through it all like no one else ever could. We are not alone! He loves us enough to help us seek and find Him the good in all things, regardless of what we must endure, hence helping us grow closer to Him—because of the adversities we endure.. Jesus is especially present when we are hurting in any way due to infirmity, disability, grief, broken-hearted, financial strain or poverty; feeling anxious, depressed, living with bipolar disorder, or addiction—any kind of challenge. Silver linings also serve as tremendous reminders that Jesus is working all things out for good. If you look around you, there are God-given silver linings are all around you, and hence blessings abound. They are just waiting for you to discover and embrace them.
Easy Ways to Find Silver Linings for a Fresh Perspective:
When challenges and adversity arise as they often do, consider doing the following to look for and find silver linings in any and every circumstance:
- Practice Gratitude: I’m just glad that _______________.
- Comparison: It could have been worse if _______________.
- Comparison: At least it didn’t _____________________.
- Refer Back to Scripture: There is tremendous power in repeating the holy name of Jesus aloud.
- Remember God’s Mercy & Grace: Try to think of other times that God has helped you.
- Pray: “Bless it or block it” for discernment of God’s Will beforehand whenever possible.
- Pray: “Jesus I trust you and give this situation to you.”
- Remind Yourself: “God’s got this… I am not alone.”
- Pray: Lord, please heal my unbelief.”
Life with Jesus does not guarantee that your life will be illness-free, stress-free, or perfect. But it does mean that He will be with you through it all, by your side interceding on your behalf. How much easier, happier and healthier our lives are when we pray, begin to accept our lives as they are, while anticipating God’s holy intervention. When we give Jesus the reigns, we can trust that He is in control, taking care of every detail in our lives, even and especially when life gets tough. We are free from fear and anxiety, stand ready to—want to serve God– with all our being!
It’s hard to believe God’s unmatched generosity, but when you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, He will send you the Holy Spirit to guide you. When that happens, you will receive the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, gentleness, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control [Galatians 5:22-23]. And it will change your life forever as you become kinder, more loving and joyous!
In Sync with God’s Will for You
God is our eternal source of protection, comfort, peace of mind, joy, wisdom, guidance and discernment—leaving you blest beyond measure. The Holy Spirit will show you your silver linings if you ask Him, and also bestow upon you Godly discernment. His guidance will provide you with practical help to know what is good and right and true; to be in sync with God’s Will in your life. You see, Jesus will provide you with absolutely everything you need to live a joy-filled, peaceful, loving life…including silver linings and blessings– priceless treasures in both good times and times of adversity!
