“Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.”

Isaiah 55:6

Lent: A time of Renewal. This week, beginning on Ash Wednesday, we begin the season of Lent. It is a period of 40 days of preparation and fasting as we prepare for Easter, The resurrection of Jesus Christ. This special time of renewal is observed by Christians all over the world, not just in our own churches. Lent is a very special time to seek God with all your heart. Just like spring, it is a time of renewal as we await the coming of Jesus Christ. Remember, scripture tells us if you seek God, you will find Him, and He will change your lot—making you a better person for it!

How to Make Lent Special

Pray and ask for God to help you with your Lenten plan. Make things right with God by asking for forgiveness for your sins. He is a loving forgiving God who stands in wait for you to seek Him with all your heart. Take a good look at your life and try to find a thing or 2 you’d like to change over the next 40 days to make yourself a better person. Write it down, and put it next to your bed or on the fridge to serve as a daily reminder. We serve an all-knowing, ever-present, almighty God. We need to seek him and serve Him with all of our being. Here are a few things that we can all do during Lent to grow closer to God:

  1. Pray to God and invite him into your life.

“When you call me, and come and pray to me, I will listen to you. When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart, I will let you find Me, and I will change your lot.” Jeremiah 29:12-13

2.  Read the Bible, the Word of God, daily.

3.  Give something up or fast from something:

Examples:

Gossip

Worry

Cussing

Drinking alcohol or doing street drugs

Certain foods such as sweets or eating between meals

Some people fast from meat on Ash Wednesday and on Fridays during Lent.

4.  Serve God by being a blessing for others:

5.  Pray more often for others and forgive your enemies.

6.  Be more generous, patient, and kind to others.

7.   Volunteer and help others

So as we begin Lent, let’s take this wonderful opportunity that it provides to grow closer to God through Jesus Christ, who gave His life for you and me. Let’s try to focus on living our best life in Him, and opening the doors of our hearts to a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, The Only Son of God, especially during this Lenten season.

For scripture tells us:

John 3:16-17

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.”
