“The Lord is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon Him in truth.”

Psalm 145:18

When you choose to follow Jesus Christ, it is vitally important to see Him for who He is: The Only Son of God, The Messiah, Savior of all of humanity, “The Great I Am.” For scripture tells us Jesus is “The Way, The Truth, and the Life.” That means that as believing Christians, we must seek Him and follow Him, even when it is difficult, humbling, and inconvenient. He will pave the way for us, and lead us to eternal life. He will show us absolute, unwavering truth, and give us new life. This requires strength, courage, fortitude, and discernment to live by God’s divine will, propelled by our embracing a biblical world view based on God’s Word.

“Jesus said to him, ‘I AM the way and the truth and the life…’”

John 14:6

As Christian believers, we are faced daily with a persistent, faith-based dilemma: Should we embrace a popular world view, or opt to follow a more popular biblical world view in keeping with scripture. The truth is that the worldly worldview that most people choose, and the biblical view as outlined in scripture are often in such direct opposition. As much as we’d like to, we cannot concurrently embrace both at the same time., so we need to make a choice each day as to which we will choose.

“Teach me, Lord, your way that I may walk in your truth, single-hearted and revering your name.”

Psalm 86:11

“Through all generations your truth endures; fixed to stand firm like the earth.”

Psalm 119:90

Christians need to remember that a world view is very different than a biblical world view. The the only absolute truth is found in Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. Scripture tells us that God’s truth is relayed through the power of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, the Spirit of Truth,  through heartfelt prayer and reading His Divine Word in scripture. He  gives us counsel on God’s ways, leading us to higher ground. Here are some Bible passages on how and why to adopt a biblical worldview in these tumultuous times:

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it.

John14:16-18

Sadly, anything goes in these times of abject relativity, and worldly truth is considered to be subjective–whatever you think it is. There are no absolutes. This sort of “truth” defies God’s Word as written in the Bible, placing us on a slippery slope. We need to pray for discernment as to what to believe, as we navigate these challenging times. For what we hold on to as truth dictates how we live.

“Those who trust in him shall understand truth, and the faithful shall abide with him in love: Because grace and mercy are with his holy ones, and his care is with the elect.”

Wisdom 3:9

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, worldly truth is defined as “a statement or idea that is true or accepted as true.” Another online dictionary defines truth as “that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.” However, as you can see in the following scriptures, the interpretation and definition of truth from a biblical worldview held by Christian believers hinges solely on the reality that is found in Jesus Christ, and hence, God’s Word:

“But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming.”

John 16:13-14

“They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world. Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world.”

John 17:16-18

“For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.”

John 18:36-37

“If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:31-32
